Winchester 73
A arma preferida do Velho Oeste era o revólver Colt 45, que tinha o apelido irônico de Peacemaker ("Fazedor da Paz"). Mas, para atingir alvos distantes, usavam-se os rifles de repetição. O mais famoso era o Winchester New Model of 1873, ou Winchester 73 que até virou nome de filme de faroeste. Esse rifle era eficiente até uma distância de 150 metros.

Antes de apertar o gatilho, era preciso engatilhar a arma, puxando para trás o "cão" pequena peça acima da coronha. Para ganhar agilidade na hora do duelo de vida ou morte, alguns pistoleiros atiravam acionando direto o cão da arma em vez do gatilho, como aparece em alguns filmes.
